New Musical Theatre in Concert
I am currently working on three upcoming concerts of new musical theatre from some exciting writers. First up is a concert of the music of Selda Sahin and Derek Gregor. They are the songwriters of the short musical film Grind that screened at 29 festivals around the world. Derek is a recipient of a Richard Rodgers Award and Selda was selected for the ASCAP Songwriters Collective. Currently they are working on their new musical Modern that tells the stories of a group of Amish teenagers on their Rumspringa deciding if they will return home or stay in the "modern" world.
Next up is Mike Hadge's Musical Dot Com that has been in development in Los Angeles for the past three years. It is a rollicking comedy that reinvents the Internet as its own physical universe, complete with citizens, physical "sites", and trolls. Mike Hadge is the head songwriter for the award-winning Rescignos Variety Show and contributing writer for NEWSical: The Musical Off-Broadway. He has also written for VH1, TruTV, Howard Stern, and David Letterman.
Then comes NEXT, a concert series that has run both in the US and in the UK as a platform for new musical theatre writers to share their work. In the Bridge the Gap version of NEXT, writers from both sides of the pond unite to share their work. I will be performing material from British writers Gus Gowland, Eamonn O'Dwyer and Finn Anderson.
